Troubleshooting Truck Signal Lights Not Working Correctly with Curt Brake Controller Installed

Something keep messing up the signal lights break lights and marker lights on my truck. Can I plain disconnect the wires from the unit and see if everything works proper without it

It sounds like you have the Curt Venturer Trailer Brake Controller # C74VV installed on your truck and are having issues with the signal lights. You can certainly disconnect the controller from the vehicle (either by cutting the wires or unplugging it from the factory port depending on how your particular truck is setup) to try and rule out where the problem is coming from.

If you disconnect the controller and the truck's lights start to work like normal again then you know the problem is the brake controller. It could be an internal short, which would require a full replacement, or it could be from the wire connections themselves. Make sure the red wire is connected to the cold side of the brake light switch behind the brake pedal. This is the circuit on your truck that only gets power when the brake pedal is depressed, and no power with any other function.

If the signal light issues persist with the controller removed then the problem is somewhere else on the truck's factory wiring. If this is the case my best recommendation would be to just take it up to a local mechanic to have them take a look.
