Replacement for 23-1/4 Inch Long, 2 Inch Wide Double Eye Leaf Spring

Question:

Hello, I have a 1971 Shasta Stratoflyte that has two axles. The leaf springs are 2 inches wide and all of the new ones I'm seeing are 1.75 inches wide. Will I need some sort of adapter to scale down from 2 inches to 1.75 inches? My existing springs are 23.25 inches hole to hole double eye with a 3 inch center 4 leaves. Do you have a recommended product for this? Thanks for your help, much appreciated

So long as other dimensions match, you can replace your 2 inch wide leaf spring with the narrower 1-3/4 inch leaf spring, though if you have any added movement with the narrower spring, which is possible, you will want to change out your hangers as well.

The closest we have in length to the spring you mentioned is the 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles # e59SR which measures 23-1/8" long from center eye to center eye. That said, they are rated for 3,500 lb axles, and from my research, a '71 Shasta Stratosphere has axles which are rated for less weight than that. Using a spring which has a higher weight capacity than the trailer will lead to a stiff ride, so you are going to want to be sure you verify your axle capacity.

I have added a link to a help article on double-eye leaf spring suspension as well as a link to our selection of double-eye springs and trailer hangers for you to take a look at.
