How Much Height Does Yakima Roof Rack Add to 2018 Subaru Outback with Stowable Rack System

Question:

I have a roof tent mounted on my 2018 Subaru Outback 2.5i factory swinging cross bars. I'm interested in upgrading to the Yakima Landing Pads + Skyline Towers I've seen recommended on this site. However I'm concerned that the additional height this would add. For context with the tent on the stock bars I can fit in all parking garages still, specifically my work one which is a 6 foot 8 inch limit. If I upgrade to the Yakima System Id like assurance that I can still fit in this garage. If I recall when I installed my tent I measure my total height to be about 6 foot 4 inch but Id need to double check. Do you happen to know what the delta in height would be for the Yakima System vs Stock?

We can give you a really good approximation of how much height the Yakima roof rack system will add to your 2018 Subaru Outback with the stowable rack system.

To add the Yakima rack to your '18 Outback you will need to first remove its stowable crossbars and install the Landing Pad 15 for Yakima Control Towers # Y00241; these 2 inch tall landing pads will be approximately 1 inch above the top of your Outback's side rails.

After that you will add the SkyLine Towers for Yakima Crossbars # Y53TR, which are 3 inches tall, and on top of those will be the Yakima JetStream Crossbars # Y00425 (Black) or # Y00428 (Silver) which are 1 inch tall. So this means you are looking at the range of about 5 inches of added height to the top of your 2018 Outback.
