That's a great question. You can use a 1 amp charger to charge a 6 volt battery, however the charger # CTEK56158 is for 12 Volt batteries. While it is still possible to charge two 6 volt batteries with a 12 volt charger, I recommend the OptiMate 1 Smart Battery Charger - AC to DC - 6V/12V - 0.6 Amp # MA82WR for your 6 volt batteries. It's much more convenient, and safe, there's no worrying if you have the batteries hooked up properly, or if they are wired in series or parallel.

The 6 volt charger is great for ATVs, Lawn Mowers, Snowmobiles, trailers and anything else that has a 6 volt battery. It won't over, or undercharge like some of the trickle chargers. It switches automatically to a maintenance pulse whenever it's fully charged to prevent overheating and premature battery failure. Also, one of my favorite features is the reverse polarity protection. If the battery is hooked up backwards, there will be a warning light on the charger, and it prevents any damage.

The charger plugs into a standard wall outlet, and then to the battery using either clamps, or ring terminals. There is also a variety of accessories that work with the charger to make it more convenient to hook up to different batteries without moving all the connections. I attached a link for you to check out.
