Capacity and Installation of Curt Class III Receiver # 13072 on 2006 Dodge Durango

do you have to take the bumper cover loose to install and what is load capicty

Expert Reply:
In order to drill the mounting holes into the cross member at the rear of your Durango, the fasteners holding the rear bumper fascia would be removed so that the fascia can be lifted to allow easier access for the drill. The fascia does not need to be completely removed. The foam fascia reinforcement on top of the cross member will need to be trimmed to allow the U-bolts to pass over the frame member, as shown in the install instructions (see link).
The Curt Class III hitch you referenced has a 600 lb tongue weight/ 6000 lb towing capacity. If the actual towing capacity of your Durango is lower, you will need to abide by the lower rating.
