The installation of the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 24979 on the 2019 Volkswagen Golf GTI does require trimming 1" off of the bumper beam mounting plates. I have attached a photo of the what that looks like. There is also a 3.75" x 4.0" square that needs to be trimmed into the fascia for the hitch receiver to stick through because it is a nice discreet concealed cross tube design.

There is an option for a hitch that does not require trimming with Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11412 which is a visible cross tube design. There may be some filing required to enlarge the access holes to get the hardware through but there is not any trimming required. I have attached an installation video.

I am installing this hitch on a 2018 vw GTI. Is there any trimming on anything involved? Please be super specific with exactly what needs to be trimmed??! The hitch metal? The existing bar that is removed, the fascia? Etc. Thanks.

Installation of the Draw-Tite # 24979 on your 2018 VW Golf GTI will be identical to what's mentioned above for the 2019 model. The bumper fascia (plastic) is what's actually getting trimmed on the vehicle.

@ChrisR is there any trimming of the actual hitch. The metal hitch?

@Jean-paulH The hitch itself will not be trimmed at all. The bumper fascia on the vehicle simply needs to be trimmed to make room for the hitch receiver when it's mounted.
