Can 6,000 Lb 6 on 5-1/2 Hubs Be Swapped Out for 7,000 Lb 8 on 6-1/2 Hubs

Question:

Is there a difference in spindle size between 6k and 7k axles? I’m refurbishing a trailer that has tandem 6k axles and am wondering if it’s possible to replace the 6k 6 lug brakes and bearing assembly with 7k 8 lug parts. My hubs and brakes need to be rebuilt and replaced anyways so wanting to go heavier duty if I can.

Yes, the 6,000 Lb Trailer Axle Spindles have the same dimensions as the 7,000 Lb Trailer Axle Spindles so you can upgrade to the larger bolt pattern. The Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # AKHD-865-7-2-K with the Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # AKEBRK-6 or the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly part # AKIHUB-865-7-1-K which both have a 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern is my recommendation.

Please note, the bearing numbers are not the same between a 6,000 Lb Trailer Axle Spindle and a 7,000 Lb Trailer Axle Spindle but the spindle dimensions are the same therefore can be interchanged.
