Info Needed to Determine Capacity of Axle to Pick Out Replacement Bearings

Question:

Can you tell me what bearings and seal I need for my utility trailer? Dexter axle P-16. Model SLR, s/n D7510244. I’d also like to know the recommended wheel and tire size. Your help will be appreciated.

I sent all of your axle info to Dexter in hopes they could identify it and they told me that either the axle is too old and the number doesn't match anything in their records or a number was possibly mixed up.

That said I can still help you. If you want to find out what you need without pulling your hub off the easiest way is to measure the diameter of the axle as that will allow me to know the capacity and from there I can determine the bearing numbers. Here's the most common axle capacities based on diameter:

- 1,000-lb - 2,000-lb Axles: 1-1/2 inch - 1-3/4 inch diameter
- 3,500-lb Axles: 2-3/8 inch diameter
- 6,000-lb - 7,200-lb Axles: 3 inch diameter
- 8,000-lb Axles: 3-1/2 inch diameter
- 9,000-lb Axles: 4 inch diameter
- 10,000-lb Or more axles: 5 inch diameter

I also attached a picture that shows the info needed if you were to pull the hub off and measure the spindle etc.

I also attached a link to a page that has all of the bearing kits we offer organized by axle capacity. You can select your axle capacity from the filters and the correct kit would be listed.
