Is Steel Backing Plate Needed to Install Erickson ATV E-Track Tie-Down Kit

Question:

I installed the Erickson wheel chocks to secure my rear wheels to my trailer. I would like to know if the chocks will stay secure on 1x6inch deck boards using 2inch bolts, washers on top and bottom with locking rings and bolts? I am not sure if this is sufficient to hold down a 800lb atv and if I need a steel backing plate or not. Also if I do, is there one available with pre cut holes? Also want to know if I still need to strap down the front or do I need to buy another set of chocks. The bike is a 2up Outlander with only about 3-4inch left with the ramp up on a 5x8foot trailer.

The installation method you mention for the # EM09160 Erickson ATV E-Track Tie-Down Kit should be sufficient to hold down your 800 lb ATV, but I'd personally feel better if you could tie in to a metal crossmember under the trailer decking or use a backing plate like # e96RR. The backing plate is made by a different manufacturer so the holes won't match up perfectly. You'll need to drill a new set of holes in each plate. I'm a big believer in overkill, and by using a backing plate, you'll never need to worry about anything tearing through.
