Troubleshooting Short Reading for Tekonsha Primus IQ Brake Controller
Question:
Having trouble with my brake controller working. It is a tekonsha 90160 model. While checking the wiring I read a short between the black and red wire. Pins B and C. at the pig tail 3040-P. Its not the pig tail. I also see a short between the 7 way pin 6 green and 2 blue at the trailer harness. Can you tell me if this is normal? My break controller keeps showing a short or and overload. It happens will driving and no brake applied. I have a new harness on the trailer and had my brakes replace on the trailer. RV Service said nothing was wrong with the old brakes and new brakes work correctly too. The trailer harness is wired correctly I returned the brake controller for a new one or replacement. Appreciate your feed back

Troubleshooting a "short" reading from the Tekonsha Primus IQ # TK90160 actually isn't that uncommon and that code in and of itself is a lifesaver because it informs you that something is going on with the connection from the brake controller to your trailer brakes.
Since you've had the trailer side tested this means that the issue lies with your tow vehicle wiring. If your Pigtail Adapter # 3040-P shows constant power on the black wire and then power on the red wire when the brake pedal is pressed then the problem is on the blue wire somewhere between the brake controller and your 7-Way socket. Trace the wire best you can and look for any places where the wiring is pinched or damaged and replace accordingly.
Let me know if you are still having issues and I can help you troubleshoot further.
