On the trailer hitches we have installed on a 2008 Acura MDX and similar models, we have found that the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to clear the rear bumper on the vehicle measures up to 5 inches.
The Pro Series Cargo carrier, # 63153, measures 12-3/4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the nearest edge of the carrier so it will clear the rear bumper. This is also enough distance to allow you to open the rear hatch on the vehicle.
If your tail lights are blocked by the carrier, you will want to use the light kit, but it is just a good idea to use it in general for safety. There are 2 light kit options: # 20174 uses regular bulbs and # 98174LED uses LED bulbs. The LED bulbs draw less power and tend to be brighter. Otherwise they install the same. Take a look at the video I have linked.
To power the lights, you will need a 4-Way wiring harness on the vehicle. If you need one, use # 118424. I have included some links that show how to install the wiring harness for you.

I have a 2008 MDX also. Does the rear hatch open with the eTrailer 20cu ft cargo bag filled? Thanks.
