Cargo Carrier Recommendation for a 2012 Subaru Outback With a 7 Inch Clearance

Question:

The schematic in the carrier picture titled “Model UWS-Carrier Cargo Carrier by United Welding Services UWS and Thule” indicates a hitch pin hole to edge of carrier distance of 6 inches and the schematic displayed in the video “Video of 23x51 Aluminum Cargo Carrier for 2inch Trailer Hitch Receivers“ indicates a distance of 10 inches. Which is the correct measurement? I will have about 7 inches clearance so one will work for me and one will not. Thanks

If your 2012 Subaru Outback requires 7 inches of clearance, then we have a couple of folding options that will work. Folding options have more clearance to allow for the folding. These both have plenty of room when in use and both have enough room, even when folded up.

We have two cargo carriers that will clear the 7 inch clearance you need. The etrailer 24 X 60 Folding Cargo Carrier, # e98874, measures 9-1\2" inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest edge on the carrier when folded and the Curt 20 x 59 Folding Cargo Carrier, # C18151, measures 9 inches from the hitch pin hole to the closest edge when folded.

The etrailer carrier is 1 inch longer and 4 inches wider and has a tilting option that you might be interested in. Both would be excellent choices for you.

Only the Curt Cargo Carrier, # C18153, will fit on your Outback in the folded position.
