The PowertraxPRO MX Hard Tonneau Cover # RT90852, confirmed to fit your 2017 Toyota Tacoma with a 6 foot bed, is designed to install on top of the bed rails, unlike other covers which install inside of the bed rails; this helps to minimize the amount of water that could potentially make its way into the truck bed. The low-profile design incorporates a front cover with superior quality weatherstripping that is flush with the truck bed cover, which streamlines the overall appearance and provides a firm, dependable seal to help to keep the truck bed dry. The PowertraxPRO MX is designed to provide the most weathertight seal; however, the Retrax cover (or any tonneau cover for that matter) is not 100% waterproof. There are two drain tubes built-into the canister to prevent water build up as well.

That being said, I'll share a few tips that will help to keep water and moisture out of your truck bed.

•The initial break-in period for the rail weatherstrip is approximately 48 hours while in the fully closed position. Your cover may be sightly harder to operate during this break-in period. It's recommended to manually help the cover to the tailgate each time the cover is opened for the first 48 hours or until it is able to close completely on its own via the remote control.

•The weather-stripping on your cover may absorb soapy residue from a car wash, so it's recommended to wipe down the inside of your rails from time to time.

•The front cover weather-strip must lay flat across the truck bed. Make certain it is pointed towards the cab. If it extends past the bed rail cap, cut to fit right up to the cap on the truck bed.

•Use extra care to prevent damage to items during severe weather conditions. Water may collect on the cover; remove water before opening.

•Do not force your Retrax cover open if ice forms on your bed cover after an ice storm or car wash. You should use your hand to tap around the perimeter of the cover, which should free up the weatherstripping that seals the bed cover along the edges. Forcing the cover open may cause damage to the weatherstripping.

It's crucial that the cover be installed and fitted properly, which is why I recommend thoroughly reading the installation instructions before beginning the installation process. I have attached the instructions as well as a video at the bottom of the page for you to check out.
