How Far Apart Should Hangers Be on My Custom Built Trailer With 27" Leaf Springs?
Question:
What hanger kit do you recommend for leaf spring SP-210275 27” for use with a single axle 4” axle, 3500 lbs, 2 3/8 tube mounted over the spring, and what distance do you recommend between the hangars? This is for a trailer I am building. Thank you,

Helpful Expert Reply:
Generally speaking you want the distance between your hangers to be about 1/2" shorter than your leaf springs, since your shackle straps will allow for some movement on the springs. The hanger kit you want to use depends on how much clearance you need for your axle. A good kit that will give you about 4-1/2" of clearance from the center of your axle to the bottom of the trailer frame is the # APS5 . This kit contains the front and rear hangers as well as shackle straps and bolts needed to hang the # SP-210275 double eyed leaf springs on the trailer you're building.
