Does a Trailer Hitch Provide Additional Protection in the Event of a Crash

Question:

Does a hitch provide additional rear end crash support? If so, wouldnt a complete hidden hitch be better support than the one that has more area hanging below the bumper? Since having more metal aligned at same level with bumper is better than being too low if hit by a taller truck in the back. Thanks

I would imagine that installing a trailer hitch like the Draw-Tite # 76031 or Curt # C13126 on your 2015 Nissan Pathfinder would help minimize damage to your vehicle in the event of someone rear-ending you (as opposed to not having one), but this isn't something that is tested for and rated on the trailer hitch so I can't really say that it does. Ultimately it will add some rigidity, but it could also potentially interfere with crumple points.

If you are debating between the Draw-Tite and Curt then I definitely say go with the Curt for a few reasons; it has a hidden crosstube design that looks more sleek than the Draw-Tite and Curt tends to have cleaner and stronger welding with a thicker powder coat which help extend the life of the trailer hitch.

Let me know what you plan on using the trailer hitch for and I can make additional recommendations if necessary. Installation videos and instructions have been linked for you to check out.
