How To Unwind Dutton Lainson Hand Winch DL15721

Question:

I cant get my brake winch to go into reverse or free wheel? When I try to turn the handle in the reverse direction...the handle unscrews from the bolt?

The Dutton Lainson Hand Winch, model # DL15721 does not feature a free-wheel option. The handle can be turned counter clockwise to unwind the cable or strap. If the minimum operating weight (175 lbs) is not applied, the winch handle will become loose and unscrew from the bolt that holds it in place. We actually get a lot of questions about this.

So, when trying to unwind the winch, you just want to make sure that the minimum weight is on the winch and it will allow you to operate it in reverse. I have attached a review video at the bottom of the page that covers the features of the DL15721 winch.

For a similar winch that features a freewheel lever that allows you to feed the cable out manually and the same capacity, take a look at the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch w/ Automatic Brake # DL15761.
