Can the Factory Brake Controller On a Ram 1500 Be Bypassed with a Tekonsha Prodigy P3
Question:
I hope you can help, heres the situation. We have a deck over trailer, 10,000 lbs. tandem axle. My dads 2008 Ram with an aftermarket brake controller works fine with it. When I plug into it with my 2015 it disconnects every time, says to check the wiring. I set it to heavy electric and light electric, neither work. It seems to me that the solution is to use an aftermarket brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3, and the correct brake controller wiring adapter like part # 3024-P. I just want to be sure that this will completely bypass the factory Dodge system and work like the old brake controllers before 2013 when Dodge went to this integrated system. Thanks!

Yes, the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 when used with the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers part # 3024-P will bypass the factory integrated brake controller (ITBC) on a 2015-2019 Ram. That said, the factory wiring is still used so if this was the issue then the above would not fix your problem. Furthermore, you may or may not get an error message after disconnecting the factory integrated brake controller. If you do get an error message then you will need to take the vehicle into a dealer so they can shut off the factory integrated brake controller.
