Recommended Lock and Electric Tongue Jack for Bumper Pull Horse Trailer with Living Quarters
Question:
Hi I have 6000 to 8000 pound horse trailer that I am towing with my Ford 2016 F150 eco boost truck. The trailer empty is 4500 lbs and the tongue wt with the empty trailer is 1500# (front living quarters). My back end is seriously sagging 1. Which trailer lock would you recommend? 2. Would you also install Super Springs as well as the Wt Distribution bar? 3. What Electric Jack would you use?

The trailer coupler lock that I recommend for a horse trailer is the BOLT Trailer Coupler Lock part # BL7032496 which is unique in that it uses the vehicle's emergency ignition/valet key (inside the key fob) therefore you don't ever have to worry about making sure you have the key with you or losing it for that matter.
Generally speaking, a weight distribution system like the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System part # C17501 should not require any additional suspension enhancements such as the SuperSprings Custom Suspension Stabilizer part # SSA28. That said, in extreme cases such as this where the tongue weight is very heavy and the vehicle's suspension is softer it can be necessary. Personally, I recommend installing the weight distribution system first and then if additional support is needed you can add the suspension enhancements. They will work together just fine so no issues here.
For a trailer jack, theStromberg Carlson # SC63VR is one of the best on the market and it has a very high lift capacity of 4,500 lbs which will be good for a trailer with a heavy tongue. The higher rated jack you go with, the longer it will last. The clutch feature will automatic stop will prevent you from overextending the jack leg and causing damage which is one of the most common reasons for failure.
