2011 Chevrolet Corvette Receiver Hitch Installation Tips, Instructions and Capacity
Question:
1. The install video is confusing and does not discuss how you measure/locate the second mounting hole on each side the one that is virgin as the expanding of the existing frame hole is clear. 2. Every towing capacity chart I find for chevy vehicles list the corvette but simple has a dash in the weight column as if there is NO recommended weight amount to be towed with a Corvette. 3. Last, how critical is the total load rating of a hitch. This hitch is rated at 2000lbs but Im wondering if exceeding that by 5-8 would be critical. I realize you cannot officially recommend any weight above the maximum rating but i would like to know if there is a leeway built into the ratings

The mounting holes in the bumper beam are located by installing the mounting hardware in the vehicle frame and then positioning the hitch and lightly tightening the frame hardware. You can then use the hitch as a template to drill the 17/32 inch holes in the bumper beam, see instructions link.
Before drilling the 17-32 inch holes it will help to have someone look at the back of the vehicle and help you center the hitch with the license plate on the vehicle.
Your vehicle owners manual should have a section related to towing and carrying items in a trailer hitch like a bike rack or cargo carrier. We recommend consulting the vehicle owners manual and staying within the rating of the lowest rated item whether it is the vehicle or the trailer hitch. I tried to pull up a 2011 Corvette owners manual online but one is not available online.
The load rating of a trailer hitch must be strictly adhered to if it is the lowest rated component. You are correct that I cannot recommend exceeding the capacity of a hitch. This is because trailer hitches are tested to withstand real world conditions and if the weight capacity is is exceeded, you would inevitably stress the hitch and vehicle frame from the normal bumps and potholes found on the road. The rating listed for the hitch may also be higher or lower than the manufacturers rating. You should always stay within the vehicles lowest rated component when towing.
