How Is the Pin Weight Capacity Determined
Question:
I am looking at the 2020 Silverado 2500hd, 4wd, crew with std. bed. The actual trailering info sticker on this truck states a max payload of 3335 lbs., but a max gooseneck tongue weight of 2490. I dont understand how the tongue weight can be that much less than the payload. Can you shed some light on this?

Expert Reply:
The payload capacity is the weight capacity of the truck bed that the 2020 Silverado 2500 can handle. The pin weight is normally 20% of the overall trailer towing capacity of the truck. The pin weight is based off of the towing capacity of the truck not the payload.
