Recommended Easy to Use Sliding Fifth Wheel Hitch for 2020 GMC Sierra 2500

Question:

I just got a 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 with the factory fifth wheel hitch connection set-up in the truck bed. I need a fifth wheel hitch, but I believe I need a sliding hitch because it's not a long bed, is that right? I'm not too thrilled with the idea of needing to get out and slide the hitch back when getting into a camping spot, I used a sliding hitch years ago and hated it because the hitch would bind up. What do you recommend?

We've got a few options that would work for you.

The B&W Companion with slider, part # BWRVK3775 would be a solid choice. The hitch uses 1 inch thick jaws that hold the king pin in a 360° grip for a superior ride. The slider is manually operated, but the rails that the hitch slides back and forth on are round, instead of the older rectangular bars that liked to bind up if you were parked anywhere that wasn't flatter than a pool table.

This being said, I think you'd be happier with the Demco Hijacker Autoslide, available in an 18K capacity as # DM8550034 or a 21K model as # DM8550035. Either hitch would use the same install adapter, part # DM6333. Once your truck makes a 10 to 15° turn, the hitch head automatically slides to the rear for more clearance between the rear of the truck cab and the front of the 5th wheel. As you straighten the vehicle out, the hitch will automatically slide forward. Totally hands-free. This hitch uses a one piece jaw that also holds the king pin tightly for an excellent ride.

Performance-wise, I doubt I'd be able to give either the Demco or the B&W much of an edge, but since you seem to be looking for more of a no-hassle experience, the Demco would be your better choice.

I've linked some videos featuring the hitches I mentioned.
