Can Red LED Strobe Lights be Used for Everyday Commercial Truck/Trailer Use

Question:

Looking to increase conspicuity on the rear end of commercial truck trailers involving a red strobe that will be engaged in conjunction with brake lights. Probably one in the center of the trailer. Are there any legality issues using this? I have seen other companies using this type device.

According to my research the only vehicles allowed to use strobe lights, like the Custer # CPL4R-STR, are either emergency response vehicles or heavy duty equipment vehicles like snow plows/highway maintenance or farm equipment. Obviously there are other times for flashing lights like when there is an over-sized load on the highway as well.

As far as everyday use goes I don't think it is legal to use strobe lights. You will want to check with your local traffic authorities (or any place that you would be traveling) as some laws can vary, but from what I could find you shouldn't be using strobe lights unless a special circumstance warrants it.
