How to Determine Send and Receive Lines to Install Derale Cooler on 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500

Question:

My question is simple for this product, do I connect\ interrupt to the top transmission line or the bottom. Ive touched the line the engine running, I cant tell the difference. The instructions show the bottom transmission line, however, all of etrailer videos show connecting to the top transmission line. I drive a 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 with a 4.3L V6. Does it matter top or bottom? Im hoping the top line because there is no way I can access the bottom transmission line. Any help you can share is appreciated.

The important thing to remember about our transmission coolers is that they are universal applications so the instructions are generic, including the ones you see for the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit # D13504. This is why some of our install videos look different than others.

I'm not sure which line is the send or receive on your 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 with the 4.3L V6 but you might be able to get a better read on which one is hotter by revving your engine a little bit instead of just turning the vehicle on.

Technically you can install the aftermarket cooler before the OEM cooler but the result would be a much less effective system than if you installed the aftermarket kit after the OEM cooler. You may need to use something like the Powerbuilt Infrared Engine Thermometer with LCD Screen # ALL648564 to get a better read on which line you need to use.
