Size Bolts to Install Curt Class III Trailer Hitch on 2011 Ford Escape
Question:
On my 2011 Ford Escape, standard 4 cylinder engine, the carriage bolt included with the hardware is too large to pull through the end of the frame and into place. I tried angling it and moving it left and right along the frame opening, but no luck! Did I receive the wrong size bolt? Has there been any other concerns about this issue from others?

The 6 bolts you should have received with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13650 are 1/2-13 x 1 3/4 carriage bolts with the 1-3/4 number meaning the total length of the threaded bolt.
This isn't a common issue with the bolts not working but you may need to use the drilling method as highlighted in the attached installation instructions. I have also attached an installation video that we made for this trailer hitch on a 2011 Escape that you can also reference.
