What Would Cause Intermittent Output Shorted Message on Trailer Brake Controller
Question:
I am getting an intermittent Output Shorted fault on my tekonsha brake controller. I have checked the wiring, ohmed out each magnet, all within specs. Re-wired the 7 pin connector. Drive around for a while, all is fine, then get the error message. I have switched trucks, same error. Short of taking everything apart, any suggestions?

Based on everything you've tried and the output shorted message you are seeing on your brake controller you most likely have a section of wire on the output circuit that has some exposed windings which is intermittently touching the trailer frame and causing the short message you are seeing. Since you've tried different trucks that would indicate that the problem is the wiring on the trailer instead. You'll have to go over the circuit from the connector all the way back to the assemblies looking for any cut or exposed wire and fix as needed.
