Recommended Trailer Hitch to Replace Factory Hitch on 2007 Dodge Ram 3500

Question:

Hi I am looking at the C15809 Curt hitches on your website. I have a 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 Dually, that does currently have the factory hitch on it. I need to go to a class V 2.5 inch receiver I notice the C15809 describes this as working with or without the factory hitch. By other descriptions, the WITH factory hitch seems to imply that you could leave the factory hitch in place, and this hitch would hang down below that. I dont want that. I want to eliminate my factory hitch, but then not have the new hitch hang down much if any lower than the factory hitch does. Can you steer me toward the correct hitch for this? Other brands are ok.

The best Class V trailer hitch available for your 2007 Ram 3500 is the Draw-Tite # DT45509, This is the only option available for your truck that's designed to fit right under the bumper only when the factory hitch is removed, meaning it will sit just below the rear bumper to maintain ground clearance and a factory appearance. I have attached a couple customer submitted images so you can get a better idea of this.

The only drawback of this particular model is that it does require a more extensive install process than the alternatives. I have included the written install manual below so you can look through all the steps. This particular hitch will provide you with a 2-1/2" receiver opening, an 18,000 pound towing weight capacity, and a 2,000 pound tongue weight limit.

All the other Class V models for your truck, including the Curt C15809 that you mentioned, are designed to sit below the factory hitch so would cut into your ground clearance by a healthy amount.
