Can Double Eye Leaf Springs Be Mounted On Top of Trailer Axle
Question:
I see in the photos and videos the actual leaf spring is mounted on the bottom. Is it wrong to mount the springs on the top?

Expert Reply:
Mounting trailer double-eye leaf springs like the 4-Leaf # e54SR below the axle is the "standard" method but they can certainly be mounted above the axle as well. This is a popular way to gain better ground clearance, as it effectively lifts the trailer by the combined height of the leaf spring stack and axle.
In fact we actually have full kits available for exactly this application; the Dexter # K71-384-00 for 2-3/8" axles and # K71-385-00 for 3" axles.
