Does the ZCI Wiring Harness Require Dealer Programming and Will It Work with Brakes
Question:
I need this wiring done to my 2016 Audi Q5. I tried a hitch place but they said that only Audi can do it because they have to reprogram the computer so the car recognizes that a trailer is being pulled so the trailer brake system works. My camper has brakes. Is this true?

The ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 119250KIT would not require any dealer programming in order to function. The wiring harness receives a signal from the tail light circuit which will already be active so no dealer programming will be needed. That said, the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness in itself won't allow you to tow a trailer with brakes.
In order to tow a trailer with brakes you will still need to install the above but you will also need to add a 4 to 7-way adapter, the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation part # ETBC7L with the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 is what I recommend as it will be the least invasive and easiest to install option we have for you. These three parts would then give you everything you need for a trailer with brakes and you still won't have to have any dealer programming required for this.
