How To Install a 7-Way Trailer Connector On a 1999 Dodge Dakota
Question:
I would like to install a 7 pin wiring set-up on my truck. There is what I believe to be an existing socket factory installed for a 7 pin wired connection socket for a trailer on my truck. It has not been used to my knowledge. It is corroded. Can I clip this off and hard wire the ?pig-tail? for the 7 pin socket for the trailer lights brakes, etc.?

Yes, assuming that plug you have found does indeed contain the trailer brake and battery charge circuits you can clip this off and then hardwire in a 7-way for which I recommend using the Hopkins Endurance Quick-Install 7-Way Trailer Connector with Universal Pigtail Harness part # HM47210. I can't tell you what color wires go where though so you will need to test this yourself.
In order to complete your towing setup you will need a brake controller, the Brake EVN # TK63VR with the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers part # 3020-P and a trailer hitch, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13145 are what I recommend.
