Purpose of Yellow and Red Dots on Trailer Tires

Question:

If you’re supposed to mount the yellow dot near the valve stem what do you do with the red dot

Expert Reply:

The tire should be mounted so the yellow dot is next to the valve stem. The yellow dot indicates the low, or lightest point of the tire. It's placed next to the valve stem because the valve stem adds weight, so aligning these two points helps make the tire more balanced. The red dot indicates the high or heaviest spot of the tire. There is no particular spot on the tire where the red spot should go.

Because trailers don't have steer axles, it's not as crucial that trailer tires be balanced like it is on passenger vehicles but if you feel the need to have them balanced, it certainly won't hurt anything.
