How To Replace 18 Foot Long Bunk Boards On a Pontoon Boat Trailer

Question:

Im replacing the wooden bunks on my pontoon trailer. The original 2x4s are 18 foot long - cant find those. Suggestions were to rip 20 2x6s and cut them to 18. That seems like a lot of work. I want to use an 8 2x4 and a 10 2x4. Based on where the brackets on the trailer are and how the pontoon 24 sits on the bunks now I dont see where this should be much of a problem, but hey, youre the trailer experts. Suggestions?

I think the best option for your pontoon boat trailer would be to break the 18' long bunk boards down into three sections which then leaves 6' for each section. The shorter each board is, the more support you will have to a degree which is why I recommend this route. If one of them breaks you will only need to replace a small section as well. The CE Smith Carpeted Bunk Boards for Boat Trailers part # CE27840 is what I recommend because they are made of treated wood and have the carpet already attached properly so they will last a long time. In order to replace all of the boards you will need to order a quantity of six.

I have attached a selection of our bunk boards as well. If you let me know how far apart the supports are on your trailer I may have a better option if the above will not work.
