I have everything that you need to install a 7-way trailer connector and brake controller on your 2016 Jeep Cherokee Sport. This will require three different parts but it is completely doable and rather easy following the steps below.
The first thing you are going to want to start with is a 4-way trailer connector, the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C56208 which is plug and play so this will be easy and we even have an install video. Once we have this installed we can then adapt it to a 7-way trailer connector with the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit part # ETBC7L. This plugs into the 4-way we just installed but you will have to run two extra wires; a white wire to the ground and a black wire to the battery but you can use the same route as you used for the 4-way above.
For a brake controller, I highly recommend the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 because it does not require any other connections to be made. If you were not using the Curt Echo then you would have to run a blue wire from the 7-way up into the cab and then you would also have to run another power and ground wire to the battery from the cab as well as splicing into a wire behind the brake pedal which is much more difficult than the above process.
