Recommended Parts to Flat Tow 2007 Hummer H3

Question:

I have a 2007 Hummer H3. What tow bar do you recommend and do I have to use an added braking system and what do you recommend. The manual says to put the transfer into neutral and Trans into park.??? Do I leave the key on so the front wheels unlock and automatically turn while driving? I pulled a Jeep CJ7 years ago flat towing and that's what I was told to do. Any other recommendations?

I took a look at the owner's manual for a 2007 Hummer H3 and since you have to shift the transfer case into neutral, the keys are not going to be in the vehicle, as it does state in the last part of the directions to turn the ignition off, so you will take your keys out; the wheels will turn while you are driving with the keys out.

In regards to the parts you need, it is required by law in most states to use a supplemental braking system and no matter what it is a very good idea because it is a safer way to flat tow. It will be easier to brake the motorhome while you are towing because the inertia from the Hummer will be slowed with it having a braking system.

To flat tow you will need base plates, a tow bar, safety chains, wiring to engage your Hummer's lights, a brake light relay and a supplemental braking system. You may also need a high-low adapter in order to keep your Hummer level, and I've added a link to a help article which shows you how to determine if you need an adapter as well as a link to our selection of adapters. Additionally, I have added links to instruction manuals, video reviews and installations for you to take a look at.

The following are the parts I recommend to flat tow your 2007 Hummer H3:

- Base Plate Kit: Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit # 2505-1
- Tow Bar: Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar # RM-520
- Safety Chains: RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables # RM-643
- Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267
- Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-88400
- Supplemental Braking System: Roadmaster InvisiBrake Supplemental Braking System # RM-8700
