Question:

The Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7 is your complete solution for converting over to a fully functioning 7-way connection plus 4-way while the Adapter 4-Pole to 7-Pole and 4-Pole # 37185 only provides your adapter for light functions and mounting bracket hardware.
If you're still in the market for a brake controller, the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller # C51180 is a popular option allowing you to skip the need for mounting a controller in your vehicle, complete additional wiring installation, and is compatible with your phone for a simple to use and easy to install solution. If you went this route, you would use the # ETBC7L installation kit instead of the two you started with.
If you have another controller in mind, the advantage of the ETBC7 is having everything you will need to install a brake controller available in one package. Circuit breakers, additional duplex 10 gauge wiring, connectors, terminals, installation guide, test lamp, and more.
I have included a great review video to walk through everything included if you decide to go that route.
