Installing Trailer Brake Controller on 2006 Dodge Ram with Factory 4-Way Connector
Question:
If I use the 4 to 7 converter with the extra wires, where does the brake controller wire go to, if I hook a brake controller to the factory harness under the dash. It looks like your wiring diagram is for hard wiring in a controller. Is there a brake controller connector at the rear of the truck near the flat 4 plug? 2006 Dodge Ram1500 4 door

If your 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 came with the factory 4-Flat then it will be equipped with the brake controller port under the dash that you can use to install a brake controller like the Tekonsha PowerTrac # 39523 you were looking at with the Plug-In Adapter # 3020-P.
In addition to making this connection though you would still need to use the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7 to convert the 4-Way to a 7-Way and add the additional wiring needed. On your Ram the blue (brake output) wire is not run all the way back to the rear of the truck. The wire actually stops at a connector that's located right under the driver's side wheel well.
The blue wire from the 7-Way adapter included with the # ETBC7 Kit needs to be run up to this connector to complete the circuit. I have attached the complete instructions manual below for the wiring kit that will detail the remaining steps for your Ram.
