Although the # PD92201 Charge Wizard isn't absolutely necessary, it's an inexpensive upgrade that will help keep your expensive batteries in top condition. The wizard does this by automatically monitoring the charge status of your batteries and using whichever mode is most appropriate depending on the current usage of the batteries. There's also a storage mode that keeps the batteries topped off but also prevents sulfate build-up. You can also manually select the charge mode if you wish.
In short, is the Charge Wizard a requirement? No, but it would be a wise investment to get the most out of your batteries and the # PD9130 converter/charger. I've linked you to the product description video, just click the link to view it.
