Trailer Hitch/Wiring Harness Recommendation for 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan
Question:
Not sure which hitch to get, thinking the Curt maybe lower than Draw Tite but no cutting. Is the Curt to low for a utility trailer? Is the wiring as easily to install as the hitch?

Both hitches would install in the same manner, but the Curt # C12177 wouldn't require any fascia trimming and would hang lower by about 3-1/2 inches. Because no trimming is needed, that's the hitch I'd recommend.
To get the proper height to keep your trailer level, you'd need to choose the correct ball mount with the proper rise. When installed, assuming you have the stock tire size on your Tiguan the inside top of the receiver opening sits at right about 11-1/2 inches above the ground. To determine what exact rise you need, jack the trailer so it's level, and measure from the bottom of the coupler down tow the ground. Subtract 11-1/2 from that height, and you'll have the necessary rise. You'll need a trailer ball whose shank diameter matches the hole in the ball mount you choose and that has the proper ball diameter for the trailer coupler. You'll also need a pin and clip, part # PC3
For the wiring, I'd recommend part # C56403. The wiring harness is a plug and play installation which would be pretty simple, but you will need to run a wire up under the vehicle up to the engine compartment to attach to the positive battery terminal. To provide the proper circuit protection, it's important that the power feed attaches directly to the battery, not to a 12-outlet or to the fusebox.
I've linked you to some videos showing the hitch and the wiring being installed on a 2018 Tiguan. The process on your vehicle would be very similar.
