Surge Brake Actuator Recommendation for Disc Brake Application to Replace Atwood Actuator
Question:
I cannot seem to find the exact hitch, so what would you suggest as a replacement? Atwood p/n 85778, maximum tongue load 900 lbs, SAE/GSA class 4, max trailer GVWR 6,000 lbs, 2inch ball. It is coming from a dual axle boat trailer with disc brakes. I cannot find a vin number so I assume it is older then 1978. It came with a 1964 19inch wooden Century Resorter with big block V-8.

Since the Atwood couplers were all discontinued a few years ago you'd need to with a different brand coupler for a disc brake application.
So the replacement I recommend for you David is the Dexter surge brake coupler for disc brakes part # 099-175-20. This has a 7,000 lb capacity so it has more than enough capacity than you'd need, comes with an electric reverse lock out, and overall is one of the best and most reliable actuators out there.
