Recommended Crossbar Size To Use Thule Hullavator On 2019 Subaru Outback Wagon

Question:

Looking to install the Thule hullavator onto our 2019 subaru outback. Will these cross bars fit? I was able to locate the same type of crossbar at 47inch which was confirmed to fit however when reading the instructions on the hullavator it was recommended to have 4-8inch of overhang from the mounted portion of the crossbars therefor I thought it would be best to get a longer model. Is that true? Would the 53inch inch bars fit on the outback? Thanks for your help!

Yes, you can use the longer Thule WingBar Evo Crossbars part # TH711420 on your 2019 Subaru Outback Wagon to gain the extra clearance for the Hullavator part # TH898 if there is 39-1/2" to 52-3/4" of space between your factory flush rails. The bars are designed with a slot on the bottom to fit the feet that are designed for the vehicle. If you go with larger bars they will not always fit since the slot doesn't run across the entire length of the bar, however Thule said if you have the amount of space I mentioned above you will be fine to upgrade the bars to the longer bars.

When using the Hullavator, Thule requires the extra bar overhang to ensure the kayak will not scrape the side of the vehicle when using the load assist feature. Please keep in mind some states will ticket you if your bars go past your side mirrors so you may want to confirm this information in your specific state.

If your 2019 Subaru Outback Wagon is a Touring model, you need Thule WingBar Evo Crossbars part # TH711420 with Evo Flush Rail Feet part # TH710601 and fit kit part # TH186047.

If your 2019 Subaru Outback Wagon is not a Touring, you can use the same bars, but need the Rapid Podium Feet # TH460R and Fit Kit # THKIT4063 instead.
