30 Foot Jayco TT Equipped with Friction Sway Control Still Has Sway Problem

Question:

I need a hitch system to control sway. I have a 30foot Jayco TT being pulled by a Chevy Silverado 2500 HD. Trailer weight aproximately 7000lbs. Hitch I have is regular weight distributing with a side hand crank sway control. Still sways way too much and is all over the road.

For a trailer of that length and width, a friction sway control would not be my first choice. Using two sway control units like part # 83660 (one per side) is recommended for trailers exceeding 25 feet in length. A friction sway control unit will resist trailer sway once it begins, but it isn't the most effective solution available.

Given its 7000 lb weight, your fully loaded and ready to tongue weight would likely be in the 700-1100 lb range. I'll link you to an FAQ article that shows how to determine your ready to tow tongue weight. The most effective combination weight distribution/sway control system we offer is the Reese Strait-Line system. The Strait-Line, as its name suggests, will literally force the trailer to stay inline behind the tow vehicle, preventing sway before it can begin. If your trailer tongue weight is between 600 and 1200 lbs,, I'd recommend the # RP66074. The system includes a weight distributing shank, but the 2-5/16 inch trailer ball is sold separately as part # 19286.
