T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness Not Working as it Should
Question:
Hi etrailer, I bought one of these a couple years back and am having connectivity problems. Based on product reviews, others have had problems as well. I assume each color input car side wire is supposed to connect to the same color on the output trailer side right? Two out of four work on my harness. Also, theres a red wire on the input side with no mate on the output side... is it supposed to connect to any of the four output wires white, brown, yellow or green? Thanks in advance for your help. Hi, I am sorry you are having trouble with your trailer wiring. You need to test the wires on both sides of the converter box. On the car side you will have 5 wires and on the trailer side you will have 4 wires. The extra red wire on the car side will be your brakes and the converter transfers that over to the yellow (left turn) and Green (right turn) wires to allow your cars 5 wire system to work with the trailers 4 wire system. The brown wire is the tail lights and the white wire is the ground.
If all of your wires are working on the vehicle side of the converter that means that the converter itself is bad. You should check your trailer for shorts and proper functioning because just installing a new harness with a converter without checking out the trailer may lead you to the same situation.
If you do not have proper function on the vehicle side, then you need to run down the brake on that end. Make sure all of your vehicle lights are functioning and make sure you have a good ground connection as this is often the problem with trailer lighting issues. If you find that the converter is bad then you will need to purchase a new vehicle specific wiring harness. These harnesses protect your vehicle from shorts in the system that could lead to problems with the vehicles lights or a fire. Below I have posted a link to one of our wiring trouble shooting videos. If I can be of further assistance please let me know.
