Weight Distribution Hitch With Anti-Sway for Pop-Up Camper
Question:
I have a 2012 MDX. I have a pop-up camper with a weight of 2500 lb. I just towed it and had one issue with some sway no rain, wind were involved. By owners manual said it did not recommend a weight distribution hitch, however, I would prefer to use one with a sway bar. Is that necessary for this light of a camper? Thank you so much for your help.

You can use a weight distribution hitch with anti-sway with your 2012 Acura MDX without issue. I took a look at the owner's manual and it stated it did not recommend one because the wrong one could reduce performance. However, that won't be an issue because we will get you the right system for your 2,500 lb camper so you can enjoy your drive to your destination.
In order to choose the properly rated weight distribution system you will first need to know your total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your 2012 Acura MDX.
The tongue weight is typically between 10% and 15% of your trailer's GVWR, and from there, simply add on the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle and you'll have your TTW. The ideal system would be one in which your TTW falls somewhere in the middle of the weight distribution system's tongue weight capacity.
Since you mentioned your trailer weight 2,500 lbs, it is likely your TTW will be in the 400 lb range and for that I highly recommend the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control # FA92-00-0600 because it uses 2 points of sway control via friction in the spring bars to effectively reduce sway. It also uses clamp-on brackets so you won't have to drill along your trailer frame, and allows you to back up with the system on, which make this system easier to use than others.
It has a tongue weight capacity of 250 lbs to 600 lbs which is going to be perfect for your 2,500 lb pop-up. This system comes with everything you need for installation but for 2" Hitch Ball # EQ91-00-6080. It is also recommended you use thin-walled socket # EQ70-00-4800 to help install the hitch ball.
I have added a link to a video review of the Fastway system for you to check out as well.
