Correct Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System for Jayco White Hawk 24MBH

Question:

I want the Reese Steadi-Flex weight distribution hitch but don’t know if I should get the 10,000 lb. w/ 1,000 lb. tongue or the 12,000 lb. w/ 1,200 tongue. We are buying a new trailer in a few weeks Jayco White Hawk 24MBH, the trailer has an unloaded weight of 5,600 lbs. and a max load of 7,300 lbs. Dry hitch weight is 560 lbs. Not sure what the tongue weight will actually be after loaded. My hitch is only rated for 1,100 lbs. Which one will I be safe with buying?

The correct system for your Jayco White Hawk 24MBH is the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control # RP66560, which is rated for total tongue weights between 600 lbs and 1,200 lbs.

The reason for this is the correctly rated weight distribution system depends on your total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle.

The tongue weight is typically between 10% and 15% of your trailer's GVWR, which we know for your White Hawk 24MBH is 7,350 lbs, and from there you simply add on the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle and you'll have your TTW. The correctly rated system is one in which your TTW falls somewhere in the middle of the weight distribution system's tongue weight capacity.

For your White Hawk your TTW will likely be in the 1,000 lb range, which falls directly in the middle of the tongue weight range of the Reese Steadi-Flex # RP66560.

The Steadi-Flex is a really good choice, and it does come with everything you need for installation with the exception of the hitch ball. For that you will likely need 2" Hitch Ball # A-90 though if your White Hawk has a coupler that accepts a 2-5/16" hitch ball you will need 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # 19286.
