Weight Distribution Hitch Recommendation For Trailer With 470 Lb Tongue Weight
Question:
I have a 2019 BMW X5 40i, This is a new model from the previous model 2014-2018. With the previous generation X5 BMW did not recommend using weight distribution hitch is when pulling a trailer for their unibody construction. I don’t know what the recommendation is right now for the 2019 new model style I have no idea where to find it, And BMW is terrible with information about towing in the USA. So my question is on the previous post talking about unibody frame is some new SUVs are more equipped to handle the use of weight distribution hitches and the person answering the post said if I know my trailer weight, tongue weight and towing capacity they could recommend or not the use of WD hitches. My trailer is 3900lbs with a tongue weight of 470lbs, Bmw recommended tongue weight not to exceed 551lbs My vehicle has 5962 lbs. of tow capacity, 850lb. Payload but with a 1349lbs. rear axle max payload

If the tongue weight of your trailer is 470 lbs after the trailer is loaded, I recommend Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control part # EQ37060ET. The Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System features an integrated 4 point friction system that keeps the trailer in line when you experience a gush of wind on the highway. It will also evenly distribute the weight over the axles to create a more stable and level ride.
I checked the owner's manual for the 2019 BMW X5 40i and was not able to find any information regarding the use of a weight distribution system with the factory hitch. It is a good idea to check with the dealership to make sure you can use weight distribution with your hitch and vehicle.
