Solution for Raising Trailer Frame to Gain Axle Clearance

Question:

I have a utility trailer, home built, that I notice the frame is only about 1/8th in from the axle when empty. It has 2 5/8 in shackles and Im thinking about changing to a 3 1/8 or longer to add clearance. Is this safe and will it work?

I definitely have some solutions for raising the frame of your trailer but swapping out the existing shackle straps for new ones won't give you the type of clearance you're needing.

As far as changing suspension components your best option is to remove your current hangers and weld on longer ones. This is the most efficient way to lift the frame up and away from your axle. I have attached a link that will take you to our complete selection of hangers that you can look through.

If you have a standard round axle another option is to use an Over-Under Conversion Kit to flip the leaf springs to the top of the axle. If the axle has a 2-3/8 inch diameter you can use part # K71-384-00 and if it has a 3 inch diameter you can use # K71-385-00. Doing this will raise the trailer by the combined height of the axle and leaf spring stack.

I have attached the written installation instructions that you can check out as well.
