Comparing Curt Class III and Class IV Trailer Hitches for 1999 Ford Van

Question:

Thanks for the answer. In thinking about it the last day or so, I am still interested to know if these two Curt hitches look about the same on the vehicle. I noticed that going from the Drawtight Class III to the Class IV means going to a different design that hangs down lower, but I am not seeing any differences in the Curt.

There are two views on this scenario...but yes the Curt hitch part # 13053 with a 5,000 lb capacity and the part # 14053 with a 10,000 lb capacity both fit your 1999 Ford Van. So since you know you don't need the additional capacity there really isn't much to gain by going with the higher rated hitch so why spend the extra money?

But if you think you might ever need to tow a heavier trailer then it does make the most sense to get the higher rated hitch. That's how I'd approach the choice if I were you!

Appearance-wise you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two Curt hitches mentioned.
