While there is a great option for a fifth wheel trailer hitch for your 2018 Ram 1500, you do need a sliding hitch with a short 6 foot 4 inch bed, and the B&W Companion # BWRVK3500-5W you referenced is not able to mount in your truck.

What you will need first are base rails to mount the hitch, the Demco Hijacker Premier Series Above-Bed Base Rails and Custom Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Hitches # DM8552030-71. In regards to the hitch itself I strongly recommend the Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider # DM8550034 because you will never need to get out of your truck just to make a turn. It slides automatically when making a sharp turn as opposed to most sliding hitches which do require you get out of the truck; this way you can stay in the comfort of your cab instead of having to brave elements like the beating sun or pouring rain.

The Hijacker Autoslide is also a superb hitch because of its strong connection with your fifth wheel's king pin, wrapping completely around it to ensure stability. The jaw-to-king pin connection is reinforced via a 3/4" solid steel bar that locks into place once the jaw is closed. One of the accompanying photos shows this connection so you can see the jaw and locking bar for yourself. The Hijacker also utilizes cushioned dampeners which minimize the noise often associated with fifth wheel towing which means you can enjoy the drive to your destination.
