Which Fastway Weight Distribution System Should be Used with Trailer that has 450 lb Tongue Weight

Question:

If I use a weight distributing hitch such as the Fastway E2 with a weight rating of 1200/12000lbs for a trailer that only has 450lb tongue weight and an over weight of 4700 lbs will I have any issues? I have a 10,000lb trailer and the smaller one listed above, Im wondering if I can just buy the one heavy duty WD hitch for both or if I need to get a smaller one for the smaller trailer. Thanks.

If you use a weight distribution system on a trailer that is rated too high you'll have a very rough and bouncy ride. This is due the the bars of the systems have a bit of flex in them which allows the support they provide to be somewhat cushioned. If the bars are rated too high they won't have any give in them and it will be unpleasant.

For a loaded tongue weight of 450 lbs you'd want to go with the Fastway kit part # FA92-00-0600 instead as it has a tongue weight range of 250-600 lbs.
