Can Gooseneck Adapter Coupler From Andersen Ultimate Connect Directly to Gooseneck Hitch in Truck
Question:
Do to the height of my truck I am wondering if I can mount just the Anderson ball coupler and attached it directly to the ball on my flatbed. If I use the tripod mechanism it will be too high. What if any reason will this not work. Thanks,

That is a really good question but unfortunately using just the coupler adapter portion of the Andersen Ultimate Connection # AM3200 to hook directly up to the gooseneck ball on your truck bed will not work well. The issue is that the coupler needs a certain amount of room to move around the ball, which is part of why the tripod base is designed the way that it is. Without the base the coupler is going to bang against the truck bed during travel. If the gooseneck ball in your flat bed is recessed at all this will be an even bigger issue.
I'm not sure what gooseneck hitch you have installed but if it happens to be the B&W Turnoverball another option is with the Companion Flatbed # BWRVK3050. This low-profile hitch measures only 10-1/2 inches tall and is designed to mount directly to the gooseneck ball socket of the Turnoverball hitch.
If you have a different gooseneck hitch or this is still too tall to allow the trailer to sit level then your only option may be to actually lift the trailer itself if possible. We have a nice selection of lift kits available such as the Dexter Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-385-00 that allows you to move the trailer's leaf springs above the axle if they have a 3 inch diameter.
Please let me know what type of axle/suspension setup your trailer has and I will be happy to make a specific recommendation if you decide to go this route.
