If you take a look at page 4-65 of the owner's manual for your 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche you will see the listed towing capacity is 7,100 to 8,200 lbs depending on options so you will be able to pull your trailer just fine. The tongue weight rating will be listed on the trailer hitch itself, but I do not think this will be an issue. I do however recommend you look over the vehicle, the hitch in particular to make sure everything is intact and safe to tow. It might be a good idea to upgrade the trailer hitch for safety purposes, I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2" # e26KR.
If the trailer has brakes, then you will also need a brake controller, I recommend the Brake EVN # TK63VR because it offers plug and play install if used with the Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers part # 3015-P.
